Materials Guide

FIBRE & FEEL

Understand what your rug is made from.

Material affects feel, lustre, maintenance, durability and price. Final suitability also depends on construction, pile and the room where the rug will be used.

Wool

Naturally resilient, warm and comfortable underfoot. A strong all-round choice for living rooms, bedrooms and long-term use. Initial shedding can be normal.

Cotton

Soft, light and relatively easy to handle. Often used in flatweaves, casual rugs, backing or blended constructions.

Viscose

Known for a silky sheen and colour depth. It is more sensitive to moisture, crushing and aggressive cleaning, so it suits lower-traffic decorative spaces.

Silk

Fine, luminous and capable of exceptional detail. Best suited to premium, carefully maintained settings and specialist professional cleaning.

Jute

Natural, textured and earthy. Works well in dry, casual interiors but should be protected from prolonged moisture and difficult spills.

Blends

Combine fibres to balance softness, shine, strength, texture and budget. Ask for the exact blend and care recommendation before ordering.

How to choose

  • Busy family room: consider resilient wool or a suitable durable blend.
  • Bedroom: prioritise softness and comfortable pile.
  • Formal statement space: consider fine wool, silk or controlled viscose accents.
  • Natural casual interior: cotton, jute or textured blends may suit the mood.
