Rug Care Guide

LONGEVITY & CARE

Simple care for a rug that lasts.

Handmade rugs reward gentle, regular care. Always follow any product-specific instructions supplied with your rug.

Routine vacuuming

Vacuum using low suction without a rotating beater bar. Vacuum in the direction of the pile and avoid pulling fringes into the machine.

Rotate regularly

Rotate the rug every three to six months to balance sunlight exposure, foot traffic and furniture pressure.

Use a rug pad

A suitable rug pad improves grip, airflow and cushioning while reducing movement and premature wear.

Protect from moisture

Keep the rug dry and well ventilated. Do not leave it on a damp floor or store it before it is completely dry.

Spills and stains

  1. Blot immediately with a clean white absorbent cloth—do not rub.
  2. Work from the outside of the spill towards the centre.
  3. Do not apply bleach, harsh chemicals or household detergents.
  4. For wool, silk, viscose, deeply coloured or persistent stains, consult a professional rug cleaner.

Washing and professional cleaning

Do not machine-wash a handmade rug unless its specific care label expressly permits it. Professional rug cleaning is recommended for deep cleaning. Tell the cleaner the material, construction and any known stain treatment.

Storage

  • Clean and dry the rug completely.
  • Roll it with the pile facing inward; do not fold it.
  • Wrap it in breathable cotton or archival material rather than airtight plastic.
  • Store horizontally in a dry place and inspect periodically.
